Melbourne’s best healthy breakfasts on the go

It wasn’t long ago that finding a healthy takeaway breakfast  in Melbourne was like trying to find a needle in a hay stack.  But our prayers are now being answered by  cafes, juice and smoothie bars expanding their offerings to satisfy our growing appetites for a healthy, convenient kick start to our day.

Here’s my pick of Melbourne’s best…

Green Cup – South Yarra
OMG hot pick: as hard as it is to go past the signature Green Cup smoothie, the smashed avocado on seeded bread with chilli (or chia) is seasoned to such perfection, it’s like a flavour explosion in your mouth – if sweet is more your thing, the Matcha Maiden mango green smoothie is pretty good too.

OMG hot pick: Though renown for their organic superfood smoothies, the sweet toasted sprouted bread with tahini, banana, honey, chia seeds and cinnamon is a breakfast that will stop you in your tracks!

Green Press – CBD
OMG hot pick:  The low GI breakfast burrito is the perfect hand held start to the day.

OMG hot pick: Breakfast chia pudding jars with toppings of your choice.

Yardmill Toorak
OMG hot pick: Carrot bircher muesli with almond milk and Coyo is Coconuts

Home Juice Bar – Docklands
OMG hot pick: Acai bowls complete with flowers, blueberries and coconut flesh is as easy on the eyes as it is on the stomach.

Pressed Juices Armadale, Brighton, CBD, South Yarra, Windsor, Richmond
OMG hot pick:  Raw food coconut yoghurt parfait with Coyo, raspberries, passionfruit, blueberries, buckinis, pistachios and pecans.

Heal.Thy Self Co.
OMG hot pick: ‘Be Kind’ smoothie with berries, banana, coconut, lucuma and raw wild berry protein powder is the perfect tangy hit for your breakfast.

Thursday 6.30am - Brekky on the go

@hellenic.mastic bircher muesli

Mastic – Kew
OMG hot pick: The new menu has seen a colourful bircher hit our plates. Wholegrain oats, sunflower seeds, apricots, cherries, almonds and flaked quinoa…. YUM!

Urban Projuice – Albert Park
OMG hot pick: We’ve all heard of Acai bowls, but the matcha bowl at this little cafe is packed with this green tea antioxidant and topped with fruit and superfoods.

Mr Hubbard - Porridge

Mr Hubbard – coconut quinoa porridge

Mr Hubbard – Malvern
OMG hot pick: I’m a big fan of the coconut quinoa porridge with berries when I’m on the run.

Do you know anywhere else in Melbourne that offers great  healthy breakfasts on the go?  We’d love you to let us know in the comments below…

You’ve missed my favourite place! Soul Press in Edithvale.
Their acai bowls are to die for! The smoothies, raw cakes and pressed juices are also damn good!

You should try wrap it fresh in South Melbourne. They make a great bircher yoghurt, plus they have amazing smoothies

    Hey OMG
Great site but of the 11 suggestions only one is savoury and 5 Involve chia….for those of us who aren’t overly enthused by sweet chia type breakfasts be good to see somewhere with some variety that don’t on the go breakfast – suggestions?

Hi Alana, thanks so much for taking the time to check out the site, so pleased you like it. Tin terms of the healthy breakfast to go recommendations, these are reflective of what is on offer ‘to go’ – i.e. select/limited offering, I haven’t come across many savoury options. If there are some I’m not aware of I’d love to hear them. If you’re keen for great places to eat in check out this story I published for Grand Final weekend last year (the menu items are seasonal but these are all great places regardless of the dish). You can also check out my ‘healthy food finder’ listing on the right hand side of the site – which lists breakfasts options by CBD, north and south of the river. I hope you find something there you enjoy. 🙂
